Julius the recorder player looking forward to Christmas

an interactive concert for families

A musical time travel through the world of music, for children 6 years and up

Julius the flute player in Christmas anticipation

In this concert programme, the central character of ‘Julius’ takes the children on an exciting journey through the centuries, distant lands and the world of music. And of course, like other children, he is already very much looking forward to Christmas.

Julius, on his way to his recorder lesson, oversleeps his usual bus stop and suddenly finds himself in the Middle Ages. And today of all days, when it is the last lesson before the Christmas holidays! On his way, he not only encounters musicians and minstrels from different continents, but also different styles of music, recorders and composers.

Julius is curious and open-minded, he asks lots of questions and encourages the children to do the same. This creates a lively dialogue in which the children learn a lot about music.

The selected pieces of music illuminate many facets of music. There are rousing medieval minstrel dances, but also meditative sounds that encourage relaxed listening. The children get to know the oldest German Christmas carol and Christmas music by Johann Sebastian Bach. In addition, works by Heinrich Isaac, Antonio de Cabezón and one or two other Christmas carols can be heard on more than 30 recorders of various sizes and types.

Playing time 55 min. For children from age 6
